Thank you for "Courageous", from TCSO

Sheriff Donny Turner and everyone at the Troup County Sheriff's Office would like to graciously and humbly thank those at Rosemont Baptist Church, Franklin Road Baptist Church, the families of the West Georgia Homeschool Association, LaGrange 10 (Carmike Cinemas) and Jim Bob's for a wonderful evening of "Dinner and a Movie".

As a result of the generosity from those mentioned, the employees of the Troup County Sheriff's Office were treated to a viewing of the movie "Courageous". This film was an inspiring and refreshing course in fatherhood. We were also reminded of the dangers facing those who choose to serve and protect the citizens of our great County.

It goes without saying that, whenever we put on the badge we have you in mind. We simply ask that you keep us in your prayers, as we strive to be courageous in our duties.

Thank you, again. God bless.

Roofing Scam Yields Theft Arrest

"Bishop" Regis Bernard Scarbrough, Sr. (age 43, of Birmingham, AL)

Sheriff Donny Turner announces that an arrest has been made as a result of an alleged roofing scam. According to Troup County Investigators, the founder of HHC (Heavenly Hands for Christ) Shingling would solicit victims by placing various signs in specific neighborhoods advertizing “Free Roofing”.

As potential victims would call the business line attached to the signs, “Bishop” Regis Scarbrough, Sr. would advise them to file an insurance claim for the repair work to be done. An adjuster would then be dispatched to assess the damages and, in turn, send a check to the victims in order for the repairs to be made.

Once the check has arrived in the victims’ possession, the “Bishop” would visit the residence and pray with the family; then, take the victims to the bank and deposit the check. The “Bishop” would then have the victims’ cut a personal check (made out to the HHC roofing business), and leave with the victims’ check (valued at over $1,500.00) without performing any repair work on their residence.

After several days without response, or resolution, the victims finally notify authorities to file a report for Theft by Taking. “Bishop” Regis Bernard Scarbrough, Sr. has been arrested and charged with Felony Theft by Taking. There is the possibility that more charges could follow.

The cases of Theft that Investigators are presently aware of may not be the only cases of Theft, resulting from this scam. The scam apparently targeted, primarily, senior citizens. Troup County Sheriff Donny Turner asks that, if you believe you have also been targeted as a victim in this scam, you should call (706)883-1616 and speak with an Investigator.

Troup County Jail's Policy Change on Incoming Mail for Inmates

As of 10/1/2011 (Saturday), the Troup County Jail will only be receiving incoming mail for inmates in simple postcard format. As a result of the new policy, the elimination of standard (envelope) mail will cut down on the cases of contraband occasionally encountered when this type of mail is received at the Jail.
From this point, any standard (enveloped) mail received will be returned to the sender with a note of rejection, advising the sender of the new policy change, from the Troup County Jail staff.
The new change in policy does not effect the way that outgoing mail (from inmates, to loved ones) is processed at the Troup County Jail. Outgoing mail will remain unchanged. Standard (enveloped) letters will continue to be acceptable when sending mail abroad, from the Jail.
