TCSO undergoes ACT Training to benefit Troup County's vulnerable adults

The Crime Prevention Division of TCSO attended Certified At-Risk Adult Crime Tactics (ACT) Training in Columbus. This training was conducted by the Georgia Department of Human Services (Division of Aging Services) at Columbus PD, this week. Those successfully completing the course became Specialists in PROTECTING our Senior Citizens, PREVENTING future cases of vulnerable adult abuse, neglect and exploitation and PROSECUTING the existing cases of such in our County.

It is estimated that 1-in-5 Georgians are "At-risk" adults. With that in mind, only 1-in-23 cases of elder and disabled adult abuse are REPORTED each year. Our target outcome in this training is to be enabled with vital information to educate citizens on their rights with further training, beneficial Laws and individuals dedicated to serving and protecting vulnerable adults. Consequently, the unreported cases will be revealed, investigated and prosecuted; thereby, bringing justice to a treasured portion of our population.

If you know of an incident of disabled adult/elder abuse, neglect or exploitation, you may call the Troup County Crime Stoppers Hotline at (706)812-1000. Information submitted through this hotline will remain confidential, and your personal identity will remain anonymous.

FREE Complete Child ID Kits from TCSO and Sheriff Turner

A missing child is one of the most horrifying thoughts that could run through a parent's mind. That is a REAL fear for 2,185 sets of parents who report missing children each day, across the Country, according to the U.S. Department of Justice. That equates to 797,500 children in a year! No one wants to imagine that this could be their child. However, in the tragic event that your child should go missing, have a plan in place. After notifying 911, be prepared to provide your child's vital information and current photographs to Investigators.

Sheriff Donny Turner and your friends at the Troup County Sheriff's Office are partnering with local pharmacies throughout Troup County to provide FREE ID kits for children (infant - high school age).

Along with instructions, your kit will include spaces for: Personal Vital information (i.e. Height, Weight, Eye color, etc.), your child's photograph, DNA collection, a scar/birthmark chart, a Dental chart and a fingerprint card.

You may pick up yours at TCSO on Sam Walker Drive, or get one as you pick up prescriptions during the "Cold and Flu Season" from your local pharmacy. For more information, call us at (706)883-1616.

TCSO's New Chevy Tahoes

For years the Ford Crown Victoria Police Interceptor has been the standard Patrol vehicle in Law Enforcement. Previously, Ford’s “Panther” platform had not seen a new re-design in the past 15 years. Therefore, Ford ceased production of the vehicles in the latter part of 2011.

A more competitive market for Law Enforcement Patrol fleets has, since, opened the door to new options (i.e. the Dodge Charger, Chevy Caprice, Ford Taurus, etc.). After much research on fuel efficiency, passenger-detainee capacity and other important safety factors, Sheriff Donny Turner selected the Chevy Tahoe as the replacement TCSO Patrol vehicle.

Thus far, the Troup County Sheriff’s Office has attained six new Tahoes for Patrol, at no additional cost to Troup County citizens. Drug Seizure funds provided for the versatile new rides! The higher seating equates to better vision for our Patrolling Deputies. Their roomy interior allots for additional equipment space, without cramping Deputies. A larger gas tank in the Tahoe, over the Crown Vic, also means greater fuel efficiency (15 mpg in Tahoe vs. 12 mpg in Crown Vic) over the long haul.

Two of the Tahoes have been made ready for Patrol… Four more are in the post-production stage. The new Tahoes are a welcomed sight to the citizens who have commented after seeing them around town. Plus, the overall handling and durability make the Tahoe a well-suited choice for the rural country roads threading throughout Troup County. Sheriff Turner adds “We look forward to putting them to good use, while serving and protecting you and your family!”

Perhaps most importantly, we could not have had such great success without YOU! Remember, you should always dial 911 for emergencies. However, any information that you submit confidentially to (706)812-1000 will be forwarded along immediately to the appropriate Law Enforcement Agency… 24 hours-a-day, 7 days-a-week! Regardless of how irrelevant, or insignificant, you may feel your information to be; nonetheless, your call could be the one that cracks the case.

We appreciate the citizens of Troup County, and their compassion and concern for the safety of our neighborhoods. Again, from everyone on the Troup County Crime Stoppers Board, thank you! May 2012 be just as successful.

Ribitz Armed Robbery - 12/22/11

At approximately 7:20 pm, on Thursday evening (12/22/11), TCSO Deputies responded to 5618 West Point Road (Ribitz) in reference to a report of Armed Robbery. While en route, Deputies learned that a clerk had also been shot once.

After their arrival, witnesses at the convenience store told Deputies that two black males entered the store with handguns and grabbed the money from the clerk. Before leaving one of the two suspects shot a store clerk once in the abdomen.

Meanwhile, the injured store clerk was transported by ambulance to a hospital for medical treatment. Investigators processed the scene for evidence and gathered store surveillance video.

Sheriff Donny Turner is now asking for anyone in the neighborhood of the store, at the time of the robbery, who may have noticed any suspicious activity... Congressman Lynn A. Westmoreland visits with Troup County Law Enforcement - 1/3/12

Earlier today, 1/3/11, Congressman Lynn A. Westmoreland (3rd District, GA) stopped by Charlie Joseph's to have a lunch discussion with local law enforcement from Troup County and LaGrange. The Congressman listened with concern to the Deputies, Chiefs and Mayor of LaGrange as they expressed gratitude for his swift and impassioned response to the victims of last April's devastating tornado. Also discussed were preventative measures that we can take together to ensure a safer Troup County for all citizens! Again, a special thank you to Congressman Westmoreland for his time and support for our community.
