TCSO's New Chevy Tahoes

For years the Ford Crown Victoria Police Interceptor has been the standard Patrol vehicle in Law Enforcement. Previously, Ford’s “Panther” platform had not seen a new re-design in the past 15 years. Therefore, Ford ceased production of the vehicles in the latter part of 2011.

A more competitive market for Law Enforcement Patrol fleets has, since, opened the door to new options (i.e. the Dodge Charger, Chevy Caprice, Ford Taurus, etc.). After much research on fuel efficiency, passenger-detainee capacity and other important safety factors, Sheriff Donny Turner selected the Chevy Tahoe as the replacement TCSO Patrol vehicle.

Thus far, the Troup County Sheriff’s Office has attained six new Tahoes for Patrol, at no additional cost to Troup County citizens. Drug Seizure funds provided for the versatile new rides! The higher seating equates to better vision for our Patrolling Deputies. Their roomy interior allots for additional equipment space, without cramping Deputies. A larger gas tank in the Tahoe, over the Crown Vic, also means greater fuel efficiency (15 mpg in Tahoe vs. 12 mpg in Crown Vic) over the long haul.

Two of the Tahoes have been made ready for Patrol… Four more are in the post-production stage. The new Tahoes are a welcomed sight to the citizens who have commented after seeing them around town. Plus, the overall handling and durability make the Tahoe a well-suited choice for the rural country roads threading throughout Troup County. Sheriff Turner adds “We look forward to putting them to good use, while serving and protecting you and your family!”
