OVER NORTH GEORGIA...
TROPICAL STORM LEE JUST OFF THE SOUTH CENTRAL LOUISIANA
COAST...WILL BEGIN TAKING A NORTHEAST TRACK TOWARD THE STATE ON
SUNDAY. THE CENTER OF LEE IS EXPECTED TO PASS JUST TO THE WEST OF
GEORGIA AS A TROPICAL DEPRESSION LATE MONDAY AND TUESDAY...WITH
THE MAIN IMPACT BEING VERY HEAVY RAIN...MAINLY ACROSS NORTH GEORGIA.
RAIN WILL BEGIN MOVING INTO THE STATE AS EARLY AS SUNDAY...HOWEVER
THE HEAVIEST RAIN WILL NOT OCCUR UNTIL MONDAY AND CONTINUE INTO
TUESDAY. AT THE SAME TIME A COLD FRONT WILL MOVE INTO THE
TENNESSEE VALLEY MONDAY WHICH WILL ENHANCE THE RAINFALL ACROSS THE
NORTH GEORGIA MOUNTAINS LATE MONDAY INTO TUESDAY.
BY TUESDAY...TOTAL RAINFALL AMOUNTS OF 5 TO 7 INCHES ARE EXPECTED NORTH
OF A LINE FROM NEAR CARROLLTON...TO GAINESVILLE...3 TO 5 INCHES IN
A BAND FROM NEAR LA GRANGE TO ATHENS...INCLUDING THE ATLANTA
AREA...AND 1 TO 3 INCHES ACROSS THE REMAINDER OF CENTRAL GEORGIA.
SINCE A MODERATE TO SEVERE DROUGHT HAS BEEN PREVAILING OVER NORTH
GEORGIA...THE SOILS ARE VERY DRY. INITIALLY...MOST OF THE RAIN
WILL BE ABSORBED INTO THE SOILS. HOWEVER...THE PROLONGED DURATION
OF HEAVY RAIN OVER ANY PARTICULAR AREA...ESPECIALLY URBAN AREAS...
WILL CAUSE EXCESSIVE RUNOFF AND MINOR FLOODING OF STREAMS AND
CREEKS.
