TCSO at Senior Corps Week - 9/23/11

This morning, the Troup County Sheriff's Office participated in Senior Corps Week at the Mike Daniels Recreation Center on Lafayette Parkway in LaGrange. The day was a tribute to the senior volunteers within our community, capped off with a luncheon at Ryan's.

For those who are unfamiliar, Senior Corps was conceived during John F. Kennedy's presidency. Senior Corps currently links more than 500,000 Americans with service opportunities. Their contributions make a real difference to individuals, non-profits, and faith-based and other community organizations throughout the United States.

Senior Corps connects individuals, over the age of 55, with the people and organizations that need them most. By becoming mentors, coaches or companions to people in need, Senior Corps members contribute their job skills and expertise to community projects and organizations.

Sheriff Donny Turner adds that "It is with the utmost respect, that I take this opportunity to remind our seniors that you are a treasured resource within our community. I trust that one would discover the many fibers that make up our community within the volunteers of Senior Corps. Each person represented at this week's luncheon is a true testament to the character that defines us all, as Troup County citizens. Thank you for being a lifelong pillar in our community."
